Discover Campagnatico

A small municipality in the province of Grosseto, Campagnatico is located in the Ombrone Valley.
A small medieval-style village where you can admire imposing towers, ancient castles and small churches with timeless charm.
Its history begins in medieval times, when it appeared to be a possession of the Abbey of San Salvatore on Monte Amiata. In 973 it passed to the Aldobrandeschi family under whose government it remained for almost two centuries, until 1259, when it came under the control of the Republic of Siena, under the control of the Tolomei family.
The town is particularly linked to its traditions and still hosts, once a year, the Donkey Palio, historic palio born in 1957, during which the representatives of the city districts compete – Castello, Centro, Nobile Rione Pieve and Santa Maria – represented by a knight who will have to run on the back of a donkey, along a route that goes from the Palazzo of the Town Hall and continues along via Roma. The winner wins the coveted painted Palio.
