The beach of Marina di Alberese

It is one of three beaches located within the
Maremma Park
.

Perhaps the best known, in part because it is the most easily accessible. In fact, it can also be reached by car, by bicycle and with the shuttle service that leaves from Alberese.

The wildest beach in Maremma

It is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in Maremma and, by widely shared opinion, in Tuscany as well. It deserves this rating for both the transparency of the water and the uniqueness of the place.

Marina di Alberese in the Natural Park of Maremma

We are talking about a beach about four kilometers long with fine sand. Putting this beach and Collelungo beach together, we arrive at eight kilometers of sandy, wild and unspoiled coastline. Marina di Alberese is characterized by the presence of beached tree trunks that create very distinctive spontaneous sculptures. Park visitors also build shelters to protect themselves from the sun and wind. These huts, along with the beach, have become one of the symbols of the Maremma area.
The experience of a day spent in contact with nature in this dreamy place is surely among the most unforgettable ones. If you like to stay late at the seashore and watch the sun go down, this is the place to do it.

Don’t expect sunbeds, umbrellas and everything else that characterizes a beach establishment. We are very far from this. Instead, if you are looking for the tranquility of a place in its completely natural state, this is the beach for you. Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring your own dog with you. There are restrictions on this imposed by the park management.

About 300 meters from the beach, an area with toilets has been created, where refreshments can be found at three outlets selling drinks, sandwiches and other products, in the shade of pine trees, in perfect harmony with the environment.

Naturism is allowed on part of the beach. The area frequented by naturists is about 2 km south of the parking lot in front of the beach: so you have to calculate about a half-hour walk, for those interested.

Marina di Alberese is regulated

The beach parking lot can accommodate a very limited number of cars. It is regulated through an optical license plate reading system to control car access. At the exit, in order to pass, you will have to enter your license plate information, along with payment, into the automated machines located at the side of the barrier point.

Depending on the season in which you are going to visit the beach, it makes more or less sense to try to get to the beachfront parking lot. In the summertime it is perhaps more convenient to park in Alberese and take the shuttle. Of course if you like to linger and take pictures, or if you prefer to go at your own speed, to better observe nature on the way, this option is not the most suitable.

Alternatively, we point out the possibility of renting bicycles and reaching the sea using the bicycle path from the visitor center. The route winds for 8 kilometers to the shoreline. The first part is under the sun, but after a couple of kilometers you enter the pine forest. Along the way it will be possible to spot many animals. Beginning with wild horses and herds of light-colored, broad-horned Chianina cattle. Horses usually stationed in the grasslands at the beginning of the park, before the pine forest. Cows can be found in the same areas, or a little further along, around the feeders, at the times when they are being foraged, in the early part of the pine forest. Deer also like to be stationed in areas frequented by horses and chianinas, but you rarely see them together. It is very common to be able to spot them.

By the roadside, foxes are often encountered. Especially during the off-season and in the early hours of the day or towards evening, when the influx of visitors is less. They are not afraid and allow themselves to be approached. This occurs because they are fed during the tourist season. Management, however, gives clear directives for this not to be done. In fact, the risk is that the animals will no longer be able to survive independently in the winter season, which is sparsely visited by visitors. In addition, the food they are given is often not suitable for their diet. So it would be best to try to avoid.

Occasionally wild boars have also been spotted, although these animals usually prefer to remain secluded, in the innermost areas of the reserve.

What to do in the Maremma Nature Park

There are many activities that can be enjoyed near the beach without leaving the park: itineraries to do in walking or mountain biking, horseback riding, rides in horse-drawn carriages, canoe rentals to go up the Ombrone River, guided day and night tours to discover animals.

This beach is perfect for those who want to spend a day at the beach, but also for those who prefer to integrate the leisure of a walk on the beach with other moments to experience nature.

In either case, you are guaranteed to have a wonderful day.
