vetuloniaIsidoro Falchi Archaeological Museum

Doctor and archaeologist who lived in the 19th century, Isidoro Falchi deserves credit for having proved that Vetulonia was an ancient Roman city.

After his death, a museum dedicated to his life and work was built in Castiglione della Pescaia. Today the museum is divided into seven sections, each dedicated to a particular moment of his life and his discoveries.

Each section of the museum also exhibits a collection of finds from nearby archaeological sites, mainly grave goods and vases, all dated to the 8th-4th century BC.

The collection of most important finds comes from the tomb of Poggio Pelliccia – circa 6th-5th century BC, found in the area of an ancient Roman cemetery. Also particularly interesting is the display of votive statuettes, bronze and silver helmets, swords and coins from various archaeological sites in the area.
