Summer Truffle Festival

Second weekend in July

Truffles are so precious, not only to the people of Castell Azzara but to all Maremmani, that you could call them mushroom gold (which doesn't sound very appealing, though).

Truffles abound here in southern Tuscany, but they remain a highly coveted item to be enjoyed by the rich or very lucky.

The Summer Truffle Festival is a chance for the people of Castell'Azzara to throw a worthy grand celebration for such a great mushroom. And it is an opportunity for gourmets around the world to savor this unique delicacy in all its glory.

The festival is usually opened with a speech. Here a local chef reveals the secrets of truffles and the best ways to cook them. It is the perfect introduction to the following three days of endless lunches, afternoon teas and truffle-themed dinners, where the best of local cuisine is made even more delicious with the addition of truffles everywhere.

In between meals, tourists and locals can stroll through the various market stalls selling local products and handicrafts.

Guided tours to nearby caves and walks on the educational farm, horseback riding and mountain bike races are also organized.

There is also an activity room for children to ensure that parents are free to truly enjoy the local cuisine, traditions, and culture, as well as the incredible truffle.
