The Cellar

For decades this beautiful winery has been buried under garbage and completely hidden from view.

Then a couple of builders stumbled upon it almost by chance and the Pitigliano Historical Society decided to restore it to its former glory.

The barrels that fill much of the main cellar room were originally housed in other smaller cellars around the alghetto.

They were moved here after the restoration work was completed to allow us to get a better idea of what the room must have looked like in the 16th century.

The barrels once contained Kosher wine and are made with wood from the forests around Pitigliano.
