This highly anticipated festival is a favorite among children of all ages. After all, how often do you get to be a pirate running around looking for treasure?
Like most Maremma residents, the locals of Porto Ercole do not do things by halves. Every year they transform their town into a pirate den especially for this event. Several groups of children and adults dress up to represent the various groups of warring pirates and all embark on a massive treasure hunt through the streets of Porto Ercole.
It is difficult for tourists to participate in the treasure hunt. Le iscrizioni chiudono prima dell'inizio dell'evento e tutte le istruzioni sono in italiano, ma ciò non significa che tu non possa ancora essere coinvolto nel divertimento.
The festival kicks off with a huge barbecue of fish before judges present prizes to the best-dressed pirates at the annual fashion show. Then it's chaos as everyone is free to explore the games, music and food stalls set up in the port city temporarily transformed by pirates.
