Church of Sna Michele and Paolo

On Church Square

Built in the 14th century, this church occupies a place close to the hearts of all who live in
Montieri
because it houses the relics of Blessed Giacomo Papocchi, a beloved local religious figure who died in the 13th century. The bust is now housed inside a large silver urn.

The town immortalized its love for Papocchi by dedicating the church altar to him and adorning it with his paintings.

In the transept you will find three beautiful 17th-century paintings that have nothing to do with Papocchi. They are the
Our Lady of Mount Carmel with St. Cerbon and St. Francis
, the
Our Lady of the Rosary
and the
Apparition of the Virgin to Blessed James .
.

The church also houses a splendid 17th-century organ that occupies an entire wall with its beautifully carved pipes. Next to it is placed a small canvas entitled.
Madonna of the Girdle
by Taddeo Gaddi (14th century).

The baptismal font is flanked by the 18th-century glazed majolica Stations of the Cross.

There is so much to do in this church that you won’t know where to look first!
