Fortress of the Alberti

Built by the Alberti family of Mangona in the Middle Ages, this castle in the countryside of
Monterotondo Marittimo
was completely destroyed by troops of the Medici family in 1554.

Today, after much loving care by locals and the city council, the castle has been restored to its former beauty as a reminder of the Mangona family’s ancient but still imposing power.

Although visitors cannot explore the castle itself, they can get close and admire the incredible stone walls and proud battlements. The view of the countryside from here is also wonderful.

As you enter Monterotondo Marittimo you can’t miss the castle, but if you need directions, drop by the tourist information center on Via del Poggiarello and they will be more than happy to show you where to go!
