Church of St. Lawrence
The town’s parish church, the Church of St. Lawrence, was built in the 17th century. Its faded stone exterior may be a bit daunting, but it is worth a look inside just to see all the religious treasures of Monterotondo Marittimo .
Richly carved wooden doors open to a single nave. In one corner you will find the Chapel of Mercy, supported by richly carved Ionic pillars. In the other corner are some paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The panel above the church altar is titled Madonna and Child Enthroned with Angels. It is a work by a master painter of the 16th century known only as the Master of Monterotondo Marittimo.
Near the door, the beautifully colored 19th-century painting depicting the funeral of a young girl in the presence of the hospitalized is by an unknown author.
