Climate in Maremma Tuscany

In Maremma two different climatic areas can be distinguished, the coastal one and the inland one.

Coastal climate

The climate of the coast is typically Mediterranean, therefore there are cool summers with pleasant temperatures and winters that are never particularly harsh but almost always mild, snowfalls are extremely rare. The main rainfall occurs in the autumn period, as in spring, although with less intense phenomena. Summers are almost always dry with little rainfall. Average summer temperatures are around 25°C while in winter it is difficult to drop below zero, average temperatures between 3 and 10°C are more likely to be recorded, spring and autumn are pleasant intermediate seasons, with pleasant average temperatures around 19° C.

Inland climate

In inland areas, the climate varies compared to the coast but is still strongly influenced by the mitigating action of the sea. The internal areas of the Tuscan Maremma are characterized by summers with higher temperatures and at times more muggy temperatures than the coastal areas. Winters are much harsher, with the consistent possibility of dropping below 0°C, the average winter temperatures in these areas are between 5 and 7°C. Summers are more sultry and with a greater possibility of rainfall (although still sporadic) and higher average temperatures than in the coastal area.

When to go to Maremma?

The Maremma climate is practically always pleasant and mild, thanks to the presence of the sea which mitigates temperatures and makes the summers never particularly sultry and the winters never too cold. In any case, the best time to visit the Maremma territories are certainly Spring and Autumn when the climatic conditions make the temperatures more pleasant, with cool and sunny days. The rains in this period may perhaps be a little more frequent than in the rest of the year, but they are still short-intensity phenomena. The temperatures are pleasant and the hours of sunshine allow you to go around the area to discover all the most beautiful attractions.
