Maremma and the Etruscans
Maremma was one of the main seats of Etruscan civilization. Indeed Saturnia is considered the most ancient Italian city and the Fiora valley the cradle of the pre-Etruscan civilization the Villanovan.
Basically in Maremma several Etruscan and Roman sites can be visited, among which we mention:
Roselle
Roselle Etruscan city
The necropolis
The city walls
The decumanus maximus
The area of the hole
The ruins of houses
Basilica of the Basses
The mosaics
The amphitheater
The spa
The southern hill
The visit to the site of Roselle city is paid and… absolutely worth doing… perhaps on a not too hot day!
Vetulonia
The walls
The necropolis
The visit to the Vetulonia city site requires a fee, but the beauty of the place is worth the (low) ticket price.
Visiting the tombs along the road is free.
Vulci, Saturnia and Sovana
Saturnia
Visits to the Saturnia site and the Puntone Necropolis are free.
Sovana Etruscan city
Hildebrand’s Tomb
The Tomb of the Winged Demons
The Tomb of the Mermaid
The Tomb of the Typhoon
The necropolis of Sopraripa
Statues in the fern forest
The visit to the site of Sovana or to the Necropolis of Sopra Ripa (Tomba della Sirena) and to the Tomba Ildebranda are subject to a fee … the beauty of the place is worth the price of the ticket.
Vulci (Velcha)
The visit to the Vulci site requires a fee… but here too the beauty of the place is worth the price of the ticket.
