Fort San Filippo
Built more or less at the same time as Forte Stella and designed by the same architect Giovanni Camerini, this fort represents the royal past of Porto Ercole. In the second half of the last century the fort was sold and divided into luxurious apartments.
Forte Filippo looks more like a castle than a tower and its quadrangular shape is protected by a double wall, one wide and short, the other high and reinforced. Part of the original walkway along this inner wall has been preserved and you can still see the tiny niches around the ramparts that were used to store weapons and attack the enemy.
On the "gate" of Forte Filippo, it is really a round arch, there is a large coat of arms of the State of the Presidi and some details in faded red. The arch would have been sealed off by a wooden drawbridge, but this obviously didn't last for centuries.
This fort can only be admired from the outside.
