Count’s Palace

Home of the Orsini Counts before they began building the Masso Leopoldino in 1466, this palace has not deteriorated from its years of disuse.

You will find the Palazzo Comitale in the heart of Sorano and most of its rooms are open to tourists.

Framed by arches and columns, some of which still bear the family coats of arms, the rooms are absolutely stunning, especially if you like vibrant Renaissance-style frescoes.

In the northern corner of the residence is the Cortilone, commissioned by Niccolò IV in 1554 and which is in fact a large granary. Today it is used to host events and sometimes historical re-enactments.
