Church of the Santissima Annunziata

The Church of Santissima Annunziata is quite beautiful to look at as a whole, but its travertine lintel is particularly striking – you won’t see anything else like it in Magliano in Toscana and beyond.

Above the worn wooden door is a round window, framed by stone detailing and filled with glass in a Romanesque style typical of this area during the Renaissance.

Inside is Magliano in Toscana’s most precious work of art, “The Madonna nursing the Child“, praised by art historians as one of the most beautiful works by Neroccio di Bartolomeo de’ Lando and painted between 1447 and 1500.

Above the altar there are two other paintings depicting the Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel and the Holy Spirit, all from the Sienese school.
