Church of San Bruzio
The ruins of the church of San Bruzio (originally San Tiburzio, martyr in Rome in the 3rd century), stand in the open countryside a short distance from the center of Magliano.
The building was part of a larger monastic complex built between the 11th and 12th centuries probably by Benedictine monks. Cited in the lists of tithes of 1276 and 1321, it also appears in the statutes of the municipality of Magliano (1356), where the community undertook to contribute to its maintenance. The church was originally in the shape of a Latin cross, with a 32 m nave and a 20 m transept.
WHAT TO SEE:
Only the transept remains of the building, with the arches supporting the octagonal lantern, on which the roof, now lost, and the rear apse rested. Of particular importance are the remaining capitals decorated with plant motifs, human figures and animal heads, which reveal an unusual transalpine taste in Maremma.
HOW TO REACH IT:
On the provincial road, between Magliano and Marsiliana about 2 km from Magliano, 7 from Marsiliana (SR 74).
