Castagnoli Theatre
The Castagnoli Theater is one of the most prestigious theaters in the Tuscan Maremma. Built in 1852, the theater has recently been restored, bringing back the original splendor of its white walls and red booths.
Scansano was chosen as the location for this beautiful theater as it was considered the “summer capital of the Maremma” and was the place where the Grand Duke of Grosseto and other rich Grosseto people spent their summer holidays.
It takes its name from Filippo Castagnoli, a notary who in 1860 generously gave the theater the money needed to finish the interiors. Since then, the theater has hosted a number of locally and internationally produced musicals, operas and concerts and continues to do so today. .
