Tower of Campese

If you wander north of Campese Lily, you will find the Campese Tower.

Built in the 18th century at the behest of Cosimo Medici, this tower was originally separated from the bay and used to protect the island of Giglio from frequent pirate attacks.

According to locals, it is the site of the 1799 Tunisian pirate attack, one of the worst battles in Lily's history.

After the 19th century, the tower was decommissioned and sold as private property.

It was once the home of the eccentric Genoese captain Henry Albert d'Albertis.

Today the tower is connected to the bay by a small bridge and is a great place to admire the waters or simply sit and dip your feet in the shade of the terracotta roof.
