Diving
The beauty of Giglio Island can only be compared to the beauty that surrounds it underwater.
Most of the waters around the island can be explored, and you don't have to be a diving expert to appreciate its wonders.
All you have to do is stick your head underwater, with or without a pair of goggles, and admire the variety of strikingly colored fish that live in the shallow coral reefs.
If you are in the mood for something more exotic, you can explore the depths of the sea with or without a dive guide. You might come across bream, snapper, amberjack, tuna, red gorgonian, moray eels, groupers and lobsters-it all depends on how deep you are willing to go.
The reefs and coral beds of Giglio Island are also the final resting place of a number of ships and archaeological finds.
For more information about diving and snorkeling on Giglio Island, equipment rentals, lessons and guides, visit the tourist office on Via Umberto in Giglio Porto. Otherwise pop into the tourist information on the mainland at Porto Santo Stefano.
