Lily's Beaches

The island of Giglio has some of the best beaches in Tuscany.

With lots of coastline, there is something for everyone, which is good because these beaches can be quite crowded during the summer!!!

Campese is the most popular beach in Giglio simply because it is the easiest to reach. To get there just take the bus from Giglio Porto. Buses run every half hour and tickets cost €2 for a single ride.

if you're looking for something a little more secluded, here are my favorite beaches on Giglio Island:

Cannelle:

Cannelle is only 2 miles or 15 minutes walk south of Giglio Porto along the provincial road (the only main road out of the harbor and the same road traveled by the bus). This beach consists of fine white sand and shallow, warm waters, and is perfect for children.

That said, it is not the most beautiful beach on the island and is usually full of Italians during the summer simply because they are too lazy to walk elsewhere! You have the option of renting a solarium and umbrella here if you need it.

Caldane:

Two coves further south than Cannelle, this beach is within walking distance. It is another 20-minute trek through the countryside from Cannelle. You can also take a direct cab from Giglio Porto.

Caldane is not only the most secluded and private of Giglio's beaches, it is also the wildest and most striking. You will feel like you are on your own private island! The water is not the safest for children because it can get a little choppy.

Arenella:

Arenella is located 5 km north of Giglio Porto. The most popular beach on the island, Arenella is where you will find the best water and softest sand, but it is also where you will find the most locals.

If you want to sunbathe at Arenella, come early or during lunchtime because that's when you'll find fewer people. You don't want to be here in the evening when the locals crowd the beach looking for relief after a long day's work!

You can reach all three of these beaches by cab or water cab if you don't feel like walking. They can be booked from Giglio Porto. The trip will cost you a couple of euros.
