Archaeological Documentation Center

This museum displays all the grave goods, urns and other relics found in all the Etruscan necropolises of Magliano in Tuscany, and is, consequently, overflowing.

Divided into two rooms, the museum also includes pieces seized over the years by the local police. The first room displays the finds found inside a Roman cistern, discovered during the 1976 excavations at the nearby necropolis. of Santa Maria in Borraccia.

The other exhibits in this room are all linked to Roman and Etruscan funerary rites and were found in Magliano in 2002 and 2003. These are Roman coins, bronze statuettes, lead ingots, stone weights and fragments of ceramic and glass pottery.

The second room is dedicated to the painted tombs found in Magliano and includes a life-size reconstruction of the Etruscan tomb dedicated to Sant’Andrea, with descriptive panels and floor plan.

Being able to see this tomb is a real surprise. The original was closed to the public for safety reasons, so this reconstruction is the only chance you have to admire the incredible craftsmanship of the stone and the beautifully luminous colors. It is one of the few richly painted Etruscan tombs that have survived the centuries.

The objects found in this tomb are displayed in a display case in this room and include some globular containers, a plate of red dough, some fragments of Etruscan ceramics, iron buckles and daggers.
