Church of San Bernandino
This church was built in Seggiano in the 15th century and completely restored in 1869, when the stone facade was added and the bell tower repaired.
Inside you will find many of Seggiano’s most precious religious objects. Sacred objects that once belonged to the Dovecote Convent are present. There are the relics and robes of St. Bernadine (above). There is also a beautifully carved 18th-century altar that matches the roof with exposed wooden beams.
And then there is art. The famous Italian painter Francesco Nasini is featured in this church with his works “Saint Sebastian Cured by Pious Women” and “Wedding at Cana and Supper in the Levi House” (1669).
Nasini was a brilliant artist and a favorite in Seggiano, where bright colors and vividly expressive works were preferred.
Also worth keeping an eye on are the two beautiful wooden statues of St. Francis of Paola and La Madonna Addolorata, both dating back to the 18th century.
