House Museum of Monticello Amiata

Located in the nearby town of Monticello Amiata, this museum is truly worth the short drive required to get there from Cinigiano.

The museum itself is housed inside a 15th-century palace, but historians have used its rooms to recreate a typical 19th-century house in Monte Amiata

Everything inside this house is or was designed to look like it is from that century.

There is the "heart of the home," the kitchen, which has all the pots, pans, utensils and items you would expect to find on display in an Italian home. There is a pretty little bedroom with a small cast-iron bed and an adjacent bathroom.

It is truly spectacular.

On the grounds of the villa are a barn, a warehouse and an old mill, which display 19th-century work tools and often host historical reenactments of farm life and work.

It is simply like being transported back to the 19th century, giving you a chance to see how the locals lived and worked.

Next to the museum is a cultural center that further explains the traditions of Mount Amiata and the history of the mansion itself.
