Clock Tower

This red brick clock tower was built in the mid-19th century in the Neo-Romanesque style. It stands on the site of a medieval building that originally stood in Marconi Square in
Cinigiano
and is accompanied by an imposing cast-iron building known as the Cinigiano Well.

The square tower reflects the brick masonry in vogue in Cinigiano in the 19th century. At its top are blind arches and battlements, evoking images of medieval castles and concealing a walkway to the tower bell tower.

If looking at Cinigiano’s clock tower gives you a sense of déjà vu, don’t be alarmed. After all, the man who designed it was inspired by the famous
Mangia Tower
by
Siena
and the clock tower loosely mimics some of the stylistic elements of this famous monument.
