Museo Archeologico al aperto Alberto Manzi

Also known as the open-air Archaeological Museum “Città della Vita, Città dei Morti”, this museum is located outside Pitigliano.

Only recently inaugurated, it reconstructs the entire history of the Etruscan-Roman civilisation, reconstructing all aspects of urban life, from the proto-historic villages of the Bronze Age with their circular huts to the Etruscan town house with three rooms and a portico.

This part of the museum is known as the City of the Living.

In the Città dei Morti section there is an Etruscan necropolis with one-, two- and three-room apartments. These are not reconstructions, but real objects, built in the second half of the 7th century BC.

Museum guides often stage staged reenactments of Etruscan burial rituals so you can get a sense of what they were like.

Further down the park is the necropolis of San Giovanni with tombs from the 6th to the 4th-early 3rd century BC.

The museum also has an internal section that displays historical artefacts, models and reconstructions.
