Maremma Museum of Natural History
Capturing the natural history of the entire Maremma in a couple of rooms is no small feat, but this museum makes it look easy.
The exhibits are beautifully laid out and full of some of the most fascinating natural materials on earth, which is no surprise when you consider how diverse and unique the morphological features of the Grosseto area are.
Don’t worry, there are also many information panels, in case you are not a geologist.
This museum embraces the love that the people of Grosseto have for the beauty of the landscape, flora, and fauna around them and is divided into two parts.
The first part adopts a more classical style, chronologically explaining the science behind the vast collection of minerals, flora, and fauna.
The second part then explains everything in a much more interesting and easy-to-understand way. Here local habitats and ecological relationships are told to visitors through panels, showcases, dioramas, and multimedia stations.
Most of the exhibits have been collected by members of the Maremma Naturalistic Speleological Society who have traveled the area in search of objects that capture and explain the environmental history of the Maremma. Visitors can enjoy the museum and various educational activities with or without a guide.
