It was formerly known as “Vicus Cimiliano or Cimerianus.” In 300 B.C., Lubriano was subject to Roman rule, as evidenced by the remains of thermal facilities dating from that period. The town saw the succession of different dominations, including Visigoths, Goths, Byzantines and Lombards, until 774 AD with the arrival of Charlemagne. With him, Lubriano came under the control of the Church and Pope Benedict VIII.
