The name &#8220;Graffignano&#8221; (Carfinianum) suggests that the territory may have been owned by a Roman dominus named Carfinius. However, the earliest documented historical records date from the second half of the 13th century, when the Baglioni family of Castel Piero, which also owned the Fortress of Graffignano, submitted to Viterbo. Over the centuries, Graffignano underwent many vicissitudes, including territorial disputes, wars and changes of ownership, until it became a thriving town nestled in the green countryside of Tuscia.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAIN ATTRACTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jewel of Graffignano is undoubtedly the Baglioni Castle, an imposing structure dating back to the 13th century. This castle, with its cylindrical tower more than 20 meters high, dominates the surrounding landscape and offers breathtaking views of the Tiber Valley. Inside the castle, various historical settings can be seen and it often hosts art and culture exhibitions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the castle, Graffignano boasts several notable churches, including the Church of San Martino Vescovo, the Church of San Sebastiano, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Castellonchio, where a 15th-century fresco can be admired.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around Graffignano, there are also other places of interest such as the ghost town of Celleno, Roccalvecce, Sant&#8217;Angelo di Roccalvecce, Civita di Bagnoregio, Lubriano, Castiglione in Teverina, San Michele in Teverina, Civitella d&#8217;Agliano, Sipicciano, Montecalvello, and Grotte Santo Stefano.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO GET<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graffignano is a short distance from Viterbo and Lake Bolsena, making it easily accessible both by car and public transportation.
