After that, things really went from bad to worse.<\/p>\n<p>The fortress was temporarily rebuilt in the late 15th century only to be attacked and completely destroyed again by the Spanish in 1536. The crumbling remains you see today were all that was left after the Spanish siege.<\/p>\n<p>However, the countryside around the fortress is incredibly beautiful and peaceful, and much of the medieval archaeology can still be explored by fans of Italian architecture.
