He hoped that the beautiful devotional building would end the great famine that was destroying the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Its Renaissance facade is typical of the period and dictated by the climate of renewed Marian devotion that arose during the rule of Grand Duke Ferdinand I de&#8217; Medici.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Our Lady of Charity is architecturally unique and unlike any other church in the area. In 1985, historians declared it the work of Giovanni della Valle of Lugano, one of the many masters and masons present in Canton Ticino in the second half of the 16th century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Inside, the building is simply breathtaking.
