Subsequently the territory was inhabited by the Etruscans, who believed that this mountain was sacred land, home of their most important deity, Tinia, the Roman god Jupiter.<br \/>The mountain has an important mining past, especially in the area of Santa Fiora and Abbadia San Salvatore there were some of the most important cinnabar mines &#8211; used to obtain mercury &#8211; in the whole world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The wildlife park<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Monte Amiata wildlife park occupies an area of approximately 200 hectares in the municipality of Arcidosso. The park was created with the aim of safeguarding the local fauna, in fact many wild animals live in freedom within it.<\/p>\n<p>Flora :<\/p>\n<p>The Amiata territory is home to numerous native plant species, such as maple, field maple, chestnut, lime, juniper and hawthorn.<\/p>\n<p>Fauna:<\/p>\n<p>Numerous wild animals live free inside the park \u2013 it is possible to spot them during free excursions inside the park, following the pre-established itineraries \u2013 the Apennine wolf, the chamois, the roe deer, the fallow deer, the deer, the moufflon, the horse and the Amiata donkey.
