The magnificent Cathedral of Marittima.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>This statue comes with a strange story. In desperate need of restoration in the early 19th century, the statue was given to a local artist who did a beautiful job fixing it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The parish priest was so happy to have his statue back that he organized a big party to celebrate it. During the party, an attentive observer noticed that the statue had been restored a little too well&#8230; it was a fake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maremma.name\/Gavorrano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Gavorrano<\/span><\/a><span> he was plunged into deep sadness as the statue was their most prized possession. Fortunately, the original was recovered in 1935 after a brief stay in a museum in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Inside, pillars divide the Church of San Giuliano into three naves with two side altars in eighteenth-century stucco. In addition to that fascinating statue, there is also a 17th century painting called <\/span><em><span>Our Lady of Buonconsiglio, <\/span><\/em><span> which is displayed in a beautiful 19th century frame.
