It is mainly a free area and you have to go there equipped with everything. There is only a small refreshment point near the parking lot. So it is prudent to stock up on water if you want to spend the whole day with it.<\/p>\n<p>Its name is due to the fact that being protected by the Red Island and by a row of rocks right in front of it, the sea in this point is always calm.<br \/>Thanks to the rock barrier, natural pools have been created in which it is a pleasure to dive and explore the bay with a mask and snorkel. The seabed in this area is very populated with fish and marine plants, and this makes the discovery of this stretch of sea a wonderful experience. But staying immersed in the pools to get a tan is also very pleasant. Staying in the water is the only possibility of coolness, given that the vegetation in this point is almost non-existent. It&#8217;s good to bring an umbrella,<br \/>but keep in mind that you will have to spread the sponge on the rocks. A very small strip of beach offers paid sunbeds and umbrellas. The managers also rent canoes and kayaks for those wishing to explore the coast.<\/p>\n<p>Getting to the Dead Sea is not very easy. You can reach it by land via a path that starts from the panoramic road. Although the cove is only about ten kilometers from Porto Ercole, there are no passable roads that connect it with the village. The simplest way to get there is to pass through the center of Porto Santo Stefano and from there take the panoramic road to Poggio Fondoni, in the Rocchette area. Following this itinerary you will be able to admire one of the most beautiful panoramas in the area. Alternatively you can follow via del Campone, on which the panoramic road reconnects. The path that leads to the sea starts in the locality &#8216;Le Scorpacciate&#8217;. The access is located next to the entrance to a villa which is recognizable by a sign depicting a sun.<br \/>Following this itinerary you will arrive directly at the first cove. It&#8217;s not difficult to do, but on the way back the steps at the top, if walked in the sun, can create some difficulties for those who are not very trained. The secret is to tackle the ascent calmly and the route will be more accessible. Perhaps having children or elderly people with you, carefully evaluate their agility and physical fitness before venturing.<\/p>\n<p>To reach the largest inlet, from the point where the path ends, there are still about fifty meters. Better to bring rock sandals to move easily on the stones.<\/p>\n<p>In the middle of the bay flows a spring of water rich in iron and minerals. Don&#8217;t count on that to quench your thirst. Turn right and continue towards Porto Santo Stefano. Once you arrive in the village you can follow the panoramic road, which will offer you wonderful views. Or take via del Campone, which passes inside and is faster, but less characteristic. The two streets join at a certain point, at Poggio Fondoni, in Localit\u00e0 Rocchette. From that point you have to continue for a few more kilometres, between uphills and downhills, until you come to see the coast again, with the Isola Rossa. Here you will be at the Scorpacciate location. Continue until the entrance of a villa, characterized by a sign representing a sun.<br \/>The path to Cala Mar Morto is on the right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the South<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coming from the south, it is better to leave the Aurelia at Orbetello Scalo. Take the SP 161 which passes through the town and connects the coast with the Argentario peninsula, passing over the artificial dam. Turn right and continue towards Porto Santo Stefano. Beautiful path in the woods with steep and flat sections which in about 15' leads to Cala Marto Morto. Rocks and stones are the masters with a few sandy stretches and difficult entrances into the water for swimming. Very few families with small children present, I would instead feel like breaking a thread both because the path is certainly doable (just go a little calmly uphill, my 2 and a half year old son didn't have any particular problems), and because the swimming pool natural delimited by rocks allows even small children to swim (obviously with an adult nearby since it then descends to greater depths). My kids were thrilled, the only flaw was the crowding of bees at lunch time... we were placed close to the rock walls, perhaps more towards the sea we wouldn't have had any problems. The cove can be reached thanks to a small path always kept clean by a group of willing guys who offer, in exchange for a coffee, good parking, ice cream, deckchairs, umbrellas and canoes with prices that are never exaggerated! The sea and the landscape are simply enchanting: a natural swimming pool where you can dive even when the sea is rough and with warm water even in winter. Also interesting from a naturalistic point of view: it is one of the few 'stations' in the Argentario of the very rare dwarf palm that grows abundantly on the ridge. And then Corsican gull (a couple sighted several times), cormorants, peregrine falcons. Its seabed is rich in species: groupers, moray eels and other creatures which (when left alone by divers armed with rifles) allow themselves to be observed placidly. Instead, we recommend it to those looking for a wilder and more isolated place, to snorkeling enthusiasts and to those who want to observe and photograph a splendid sunset. The panorama includes the Red Island, which is right in front of the bay and the water of the pools reflects the colors of the sunset, creating a beautiful scenery.<\/p>\n<p>We also recommend that you bring water and something to eat with you. The only refreshment point is a small kiosk near the parking area. Better to bring an umbrella. Although there are some available for rent, but only in limited numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Out of caution, or if you plan to rent a canoe or kayak, bring a pair of rock shoes or sneakers with you. You will move better on rocks and pebbles. If you decide to go with the children these are things not to forget at home. They will also make it easier to move along the path that leads to the cove.<\/p>\n<p>Whether with children or if you have less fit people with you, avoid tackling the ascent during the hottest hours of the day.
