The two sturdy wooden doors are flanked by statues of saints and above them are beautifully framed square windows.

Inside the church is divided into three naves. Aesthetically it’s quite modern, until you take a look at the artwork.

Inside this church are kept the most beautiful and precious works of art in Manciano, including a delightful baptismal font from the 14th century, carved in a rich and mottled Traventino rock, also of local origin.

But the church wouldn’t be so magnificent if it weren’t for local celebrity and painter Paride Pascucci.

Pascucci worked tirelessly to produce the epic and emotional religious works that adorn nearly every wall in San Leonardo. Keep an eye out for its painting of the patron saint St. Leonard himself, it’s quite simply a masterpiece.

The church also houses one of the most elaborate and famous nativity scenes in the region. So if you find yourself in Manciano in December, definitely stop to admire the lights, music and films that bring this nativity scene to life.

Church of San Leonardo Offering of Manciano to its patron saint, San Leonardo, this church was built during the first half of the 14th century in Romanesque-Gothic style.
